| Types and Shadows: Intimations of Divinity | “Types and Shadows: Intimations of Divinity” will be on display in the Museum of Art from Sept. 17, 2009, to March 13, 2010. Using the structures of metaphor and analogy from the language of the scriptures, this exhibition of traditional and contemporary works will enlighten the hearts and the minds of viewers as they participate in the process of seeking out and unraveling the types and shadows contained in these works that “point to” the Savior’s divine mission. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free. |
| International Education Week: World Fest | Students, faculty and community members are invited to participate in the events. A complete schedule of events is available online at internationalservices.byu.edu. The festivities will commence at noon Tuesday in the WSC Garden Court with an opening ceremony featuring a Chinese dragon and cultural performances by Living Legends. Visitors may then enjoy daily performances at noon, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., may visit the 40 cultural booths and learn firsthand from BYU's international students. On Thursday at 5 p.m., visitors can savor authentic cuisine from around the world at the popular Food Fest in the WSC Garden Court. The fare will include Brazilian feijoada, Japanese sushi, Mexican tamales, French eclairs and German strudel. Dishes are nominally priced between 50 cents and $1, and tickets may be purchased at the door. A three-course banquet and international entertainment extravaganza featuring students in their traditional dress will bring the week's celebration to a close Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the WSC Ballroom. Tickets may be purchased at the WSC Information Desk for $10 or at the door, if not already sold out, for $12. |

| Provo Civic Ballet presents: "Classically Exposed" | $10 adults Ages 3 and up admitted. No babies or babes in arms. "Classically Exposed" will take audiences on an eclectic, energetic and visually stimulating journey of movement with classical and contemporary premieres. Provo Civic Ballet presents its Gala Performance spotlighting four new choreographers from across the country. | Synthesis Concert | Brigham Young University's award-winning jazz ensemble Synthesis will be performing Wednesday, Nov. 18, in the de Jong Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $8-$11 through the Fine Arts Ticket Office, (801) 422-4322 or at byuarts.com. "All the pieces in this performance are written by BYU students past and present," said director Ray Smith. "These are pieces for Synthesis by Synthesis dating as far back as 1981. There is also a dominance of variety of ethnic styles like African, Latin, Spanish, Chinese, Scottish and American." In the show they will be performing "Bembe" by Lyle Durland, "It's a Brand New Day" by Steve Erickson, "Xiao He Tang Shui" by Keke Xu and many other songs by BYU students and alumni. The ensemble will also take on jazz legend Maria Schneider's "Buleria, Solea y Rumba," which Smith describes as "a real tour de force piece." Synthesis combines swing, blues, jazz, Latin and fusion styles into one show. The ensemble has performed throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia and has also won festivals in the U.S., Switzerland, Holland and Finland. The student artists have been guest performers at Tokyo Disneyland and in the People's Republic of China. |
