Types and Shadows: Intimations of Divinity

“Types and Shadows: Intimations of Divinity” will be on display in the Museum of Art from Sept. 17, 2009, to March 13, 2010. Using the structures of metaphor and analogy from the language of the scriptures, this exhibition of traditional and contemporary works will enlighten the hearts and the minds of viewers as they participate in the process of seeking out and unraveling the types and shadows contained in these works that “point to” the Savior’s divine mission. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Awards Reception for Photo Contest Winners

The David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies is pleased to announce the tenth annual photo contest awards in conjunction with International Education Week, November 16-20.

The new gallery will be in place for an awards reception to be held Monday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. in the Kennedy Center conference room (238 HRCB), where the students will discuss their international study experiences and the circumstances surrounding the photos they took during the 2008-09 academic year.

First Place and $100 goes to David Sharrah for his photo "School Skit" taken in Salkantay, Peru. Sharrah also had an Honorable Mention entry, "Bubbles."

Second Place and $75 goes to Autumn Gardner for her entry "In Preparation" that was taken in Malealea, Lesotho.

Kathryn Iroz receives Third Place and $50 for "Village Chief Poses" captured in Ghana.

Honorable Mention awards also go to Dannielle Tibbitts, "Twilight at Karnak Temple Ruins"; Kari Stolzenburg, "Austrian Village" and "The Gondolas"; Aimee Garrett, "Art"; Mary Wollenzien, "Eternal Secret"; and Jesús Rosas, "Fresh Catch."

But financial opportunist Asa Barrows hopes to profit from obstructing it. Chief troubleshooter Jeff Butler has his hands full fighting Barrows' agent, gambler Sid Campeau; Campeau's partner Dick Allen is Jeff's war buddy and rival suitor for an engineer's daughter Molly Monahan. Who will survive the effort to push the railroad through at any cost? You'll see Cedar City and Kanab in this classic by Cecil B. DeMille.

FHE with BYU's Education in Zion Exhibit

Brigham Young University's "Education in Zion" Exhibition, located on the second floor gallery of the Joseph F. Smith Building, will be hosting several activities and entertainment events for families and friends during November.

On Monday, Nov. 16, the exhibition will host a Family Home Evening activity. Programs start every 30 minutes, beginning at 7 p.m. and running until 9 p.m. The Nov. 9 activity will focus on the early organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the perspective of significant people in Church history. Teachings about the School of the Elders and the expansion of the Book of Mormon around the globe will be presented Nov. 16. To sign up for a Family Home Evening program, participants should contact the exhibit's Information Desk at (801) 422-6519. Drop-ins are also welcome.

Directed by a passionate group of educator musicians, the Utah Valley Youth Symphony is dedicated to serving youth musicians through the performance of music from the standard orchestral repertoire at a potentially professional level. The organization is a self-funding, non-profit corporation.
