| Types and Shadows: Intimations of Divinity | “Types and Shadows: Intimations of Divinity” will be on display in the Museum of Art from Sept. 17, 2009, to March 13, 2010. Using the structures of metaphor and analogy from the language of the scriptures, this exhibition of traditional and contemporary works will enlighten the hearts and the minds of viewers as they participate in the process of seeking out and unraveling the types and shadows contained in these works that “point to” the Savior’s divine mission. The museum is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free. |
| Auditions: April Ann | HCTO Announces Auditions for April Ann Auditions for the classic Hale musical comedy, April Ann, will be held November 9th. In honor of the theater's 20th Anniversary, HCTO revives this classic and original musical by Ruth and Nathan Hale. A long-time favorite, APRIL ANN is the story of a backwoods girl who sees a man her age for the first time in her life! Boy howdy, is she surprised when not just one fellow shows up, but two! Part Paul Bunyan, part Eliza Doolittle, April Ann dances and sings her quirky, axe-wielding self into the heart of everyone, including the audience. |
| Former Deputy Prime Minister of Canada speaks at BYU | The Honorable A. Anne McLellan, former deputy prime minister of Canada, will speak at Brigham Young University's annual Asael E. and Maydell C. Palmer Canadian Studies Lecture Monday, Nov. 9, at noon in 238 Herald R. Clark Building. McLellan's lecture is "The Future of North American Relations; The Three Amigos: A Friendship Worth Saving?" Admission is free and the public is welcome. McLellan now works in the law firm of Bennett Jones LLP, where she provides strategic advice to the firm and its clients. She is also a member of various corporate and community boards, including the board of directors of Nexen, an independent Canadian-based global energy company. This year, McLellan was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. In 2007, she was awarded with an honorary doctorate of law degree by the University of Alberta. In 2006, McLellan was appointed Distinguished Scholar in Residence at the University of Alberta in the Alberta Institute for American Studies. She served four terms as the Liberal Member of Parliament for Edmonton Centre, serving most recently as Deputy Prime Minister of Canada and the first Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness in the Government of the Right Honorable Paul Martin. McLellan also served as Minister of Health and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada. |

| "Absent Friends" | Alan Ayckbourn's play "Absent Friends" will be showcased in the Margetts Theatre. "Absent Friends" is a dark comedy by a master of contemporary drama about a woman, Diana, who invites her friend Colin over for tea after his fiancee dies. Tempers and patience boil over in this British satire of middle-class mentalities and materialism. Evening Performances Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a Saturday matinee Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. There will be no performances Sundays or Mondays. | Abstracts DUE for Utah Conference | Brigham Young University's Office of Research and Creative Activities is now accepting applications to present at the Fourth Annual Utah Conference on Undergraduate Research. Students interested in applying should do so prior to Nov. 9. UCUR will be held at Southern Utah University Feb. 26, 2010. Undergraduates from all disciplines are invited to participate. Students should get their abstracts approved by their faculty mentors. The conference gives Utah college and university students the opportunity to share the results of their undergraduate research or creative projects with students, faculty members in the state as well as with the community at large. Presentations may include both visual and oral displays of work. |
